Environmental Sustainability Update

TreeHouse considers sustainability an important objective from the perspective of our shareholders, employees and the communities where we operate. This comprehensive approach to environmental impact drives our operating culture.  This operating culture leverages plant teams focused on conserving energy and water, minimizing waste and emissions, and promoting the reuse of natural resources.  Simply said, every day our employees are committed to simplifying environmental sustainability through continuous improvement.
In 2016, TreeHouse realized several key improvements including the following:
  • Reduced energy consumption saving approximately 95M kilowatt-hours
  • Over 100 thousand gallons of water usage reduction 
  • 16 plants are “zero-waste-to-landfill” (95% of solid waste is re-used/recycled)
  • South Beloit, Illinois, Ogden, Utah, and Tonawanda, New York plants were recertified as US EPA Energy Star operations
  • Brantford, Ontario and Robersonville, North Carolina were recognized by local government and utility companies for significant energy savings in 2016
At Treehouse, our 2020 environmental sustainability goals include:                                                                                             
  • A proactive approach to compliance through enhanced spill prevention programs
  • Reduced environmental footprint through
    • 3% per year reductions in energy and water intensity
    • 75% of our operations are Zero-Waste-to-Landfill plants
    • 10% of our sewer waste is diverted to renewable sources
    • Improved Greenhouse Gas emission

  • Improving Packaging Processes to eliminate superfluous packing material and leverage eco-friendly materials
  • Promoting Sustainable Growing Practices that simplifies our supply chain and the environmental footprint
